Jambalaya

A true Creole tradition with Acadian and Spanish influences. Created from the culinary “Holy Trinity” of onions, celery, and peppers, jambalaya is often laden with sausage, seafood, and local game meats.

Serving Suggestion: For a heartier jambalaya, substitute chicken, beef, or vegetable broth instead of water. If you prefer a stew-like consistency, brown meat, then add 1 can of stewed okra in tomato sauce. Continue cooking jambalaya as instructed. We recommend all meat products be fully cooked during step 1 of the cooking process.

Ingredients: parboiled long grain rice, chili peppers, salt, onion, spices, garlic, sugar, paprika, tomato powder, palm oil, corn starch, mesquite smoke, turmeric. (Packed in a facility that also uses wheat.)

Cooking Directions: Prepare Louisiana Purchase® Jambalaya with 1 pound of meat or seafood cut into bite-size pieces. We recommend smoked sausage, chicken, shrimp, and turkey.

  • In a medium saucepan, brown meat as desired. Once meat has been browned, add 2 tablespoons of butter and Louisiana Purchase® Jambalaya mix.
  • Add 2 2/3 cups of water and bring to a boil for approximately 2 minutes.
  • Reduce heat, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 18 minutes or until rice is cooked.
  • Remove from heat, give a good stir, and serve and enjoy!

Note: Cooking times may vary.
