Red Beans & Rice

A Louisiana classic inspired by the Native American and African cultures of the region. From the bayous to the city of New Orleans, beans are a meal found on every table.

Serving Suggestion: Place black beans and rice in a large flour or corn tortilla and add chopped lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and salsa for a healthy wrap! Serve with two fried eggs and salsa for homestyle huevos rancheros. Accompany with some fried bananas for true Latin flair.

Ingredients: parboiled long grain rice, dehydrated black beans, onion, salt, garlic, sugar, palm oil, spices, chili peppers, mesquite smoke. (Packed in a facility that also uses wheat.)

Cooking Directions:

  • In a medium sauce pan, add
  • 2 tablespoons butter and 3 cups water. Bring to a boil.
  • Stir in Louisiana Purchase® Black Beans and Rice mix.
  • Bring to a boil for about 7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 13 minutes or to desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat, give a good stir, and serve and enjoy!
